The London Philatelist Archival Edition
Updates and Fixes

1. Enabling PDF printing

Printing of the PDF files of the individual issues of LP in the LP Archival Edition is not possible in the version as initially shipped. Representations from several philatelic researchers have resulted in the decision to allow printing. A solution, independent of Acrobat, has been developed which will permanently enable printing on all the LP Archive PDFs loaded onto your hard disk.

This utility should be downloaded from here. The download should be unzipped into a directory on your hard disk. It contains two files, pdftk.exe and LPEnablePrint.exe. These must both be in the same directory.

Before starting the conversion, close all instances of LPArchive and its PDF files. It is also recommended that you close all other programmes and do nothing on your computer whilst the conversion is taking place.

Run LPEnablePrint.exe by double clicking it. Then follow the displayed instructions. It may take up to an hour to complete the conversion.

Progress is indicated in the conversion window.

If you have any problems please email LParchive1@btopenworld.com or call the technical help line.

2. Problem with the Installation of the LP Archival Edition Update Vol.115

Three members have encountered problems when installing on Windows XP the LP Archival Edition Update Vol. 115.

A message is displayed containing the following

"Component 'comdlg32.ocx' or one of its dependencies not correctly registered: a file is missing or invalid."

The error is caused by an outdated or missing comdlg32.ocx in the runtime library. This file should be in the folder C:\Windows\System32

Note:- If you already have a copy of comdlg32.ocx, rename it to Oldcomdlg32.ocx.

Download the Comdlg32.zip file from here and unzip it using WinZip or another suitable utility.

Save the unzipped file comdlg32.ocx in the folder C:\Windows\System32

From the Start menu select Run and type in the box labelled Open

regsvr32 C:\Windows\system32\comdlg32.ocx

After clicking OK, if successful you will see this message.

---------------------------
RegSvr32
---------------------------
DllRegisterServer in C:\WINDOWS\System32\comdlg32.ocx succeeded.

---------------------------

Restart Windows, and then launch LP Archive.

3. "View Original" problem using the LP Archival Edition with Acrobat v8.1.0

This problem only occurs if you are using Acrobat v8.1.0. There is no difficulty using Acrobat Reader v8.

The problem occurs when the button "View original" is clicked. A message is displayed saying the file cannot be found.

The problem is due to a bug in Acrobat v8.1.0. A modification has been made to the LP Archive programme to circumvent this bug.

Download a new version of the LP Archive programme from here.

Extract the file TheLondonPhilatelist.exe from the zipped file, saving it in a temporary directory.

Locate the file TheLondonPhilatelist.exe in the directory C:\Program Files\London Philatelist and rename it. If you did not use the default installation directories then locate the file in the directory you installed it to.

Copy the new version of TheLondonPhilatelist.exe into the directory C:\Program Files\London Philatelist.

Open the London Philatelist Archival Edition and check that the problem is now solved.
