9 Hijaz & Najd (1926 - 1933)

Unfranked cover sent from CAIROUnfranked cover sent from CAIRO 20/4/26 with Egyptian "T" h/s via JEDDAH 25/4 (on back) to MAKKAH€ 26/4€ tying 2 x 1/2 + 2q Postage Due stamps for UNDERCHARGED€ 3q POSTAGE DUE (3q missing).

Stamp shortages occurred in late 1926JEDDAH 28/10/26 on similar combination as cover above; although posted a day later it travelled on the same ship to SUEZ 2/11.€ Stamp shortages occurred in late 1926 necessitating use of Postage Due stamps.

New MECQUE 4New "MECQUE 4" 10/7/29 on€ 1/2q€ of€ 1927 issue on back of official "UMM AL QURA" Gazette wrapper, with€ printed address label€ to the€ Sultan of LAHAJ, ADEN; Type MK-42 was in use 1927-30.€ Even though there are three known PRINTED MATTER stamps (two different of€ l q and one of€ 1/2 q ), none of these have been recorded€ on newspaper wrappers.

Official Registered cover from King's PalaceOfficial Registered cover from King's Palace in RIYADH 17/7/33, on 1q OFFICIAL RATE, via (back) TAIF 21/7, JEDDAH 23/7 and BEIRUT 1/8€ to SIDON 2/8.€ Early use of "RYAD" cds and Reg. h/s.€ To Jamal Pasha, Turkish General of World War I.€ Approx. 30 years after the start of Ibn Saud's unification, a P.O. was established in the capital Riyadh.

YAMBO 27 MAY 1933"YAMBO 27 MAY 1933",€ Type YN-11, on€ 3 q€ +€ 5 q€ +€ 10q of€ 1927 Hijaz€ &€ Najd issue totalling 18q franking for letter insured for 150 Francs; up to SUEZ CANAL before going back to BOMBAY 23/6.€ On front, new Registration handstamp with m/s No. "3" and weight "35" grams as well as a VALEUR DECLAREE label.
