Item Title:
Plate - Intaglio - 1d plate 12 (3x4) subjects - copper plate. Defaced. Was originally engraved by Joseph Barnard, and used for the 'Post paid' issues between 1853 and 1859. At the end of this period the plate had become so worn that on some positions only parts of the Queen's head and frame are visible. In 1859, the plate was completely re-engraved by R. Sherwin. On back: 10 lines in cursive script (continued from back of 583). Mauritius. Stone: 'Presented by His Majesty King George V. 1845-59
