Engravings on both the top and bottom sides of the object. Top side has a 0-50 millimetre scale, marked and named over 5 milimetre intervals starting from 5mm and ending at 50mm. Reads: 'MILLEMETRE SCALE' (sic) 'THE PHILATELISTS VADEMECTUM, PATENT No 17237'. Bottom side has a 0-2 inch scale, marked at 1 and 2 inch
