The display covers the postal stationery issues of the O.F.S. during the Republican Period (18841900). These can be divided into two distinct groups, the issues printed by De La Rue in London and the local issues printed by Borckenhagen in Bloemfontein whenever supplies ran out or new values were required, the demand for which did not warrant the expense of a new De La Rue printed issue. Particular emphasis will be placed on the local issues as their method of production makes them unique within the field of postal stationery.
