Event Notes
Event Note
The Grandes Armées were created by Emperor Napoleon in August 1805 for the war against Austria and Russia and later against Prussia, Poland and Russia. This collection shows the postal history of the great war machine which was La Grande Armée. The collection illustrates the campaigns of the two Grandes Armées with the different post offices operating from the General Headquarters down to Corps and divisional level, as well as static offices. Each office used its own postmarks with an identifying number, and many will be shown.
