Event Note
Ray Todd will show Haiti postal history from the French Colonial period to joining the UPU, specialised Chile 1910 Centenary issue with much supporting material and Paraguay postal stationery from 1881–1928. Glen Stafford tells the story of an impoverished Nicaragua falling under the influence of Nicholas Seebeck of the Hamilton Bank Note Engraving and Printing Company, who printed the stamps and stationery free, simply on condition they retained the plates and, once obsolete, printed as many as they wished to sell at discounted prices to philatelists; the exhibit includes unused and used with a wide variety of destinations, supported by proofs, essays and colour trials. John Shaw will show mainly early 20th century stamps of Paraguay and Haiti, including a study of the 1860 “Lion” essay and its eight known forgery types, as well as much proof/essay material.
