Event Note |
| The display is devoted to the first issues of Norway. The imperforate “Norway Number One” was issued on 1 January 1855. After two years it was followed by the Oscar Issue, possibly the best quality classic issue of Scandinavia. It was printed by typography and with the use of découpages, the same technique used for the first French issue of 1849. Again, in 1863, a lower quality issue with the coat of arms was printed using lithography. The display shows these first Norwegian issues and attempts to illustrate and explain how they were used, with particular emphasis on letters sent abroad. |
