DACCA DISTRICT

           Isani Type 2 (?)

T~s is described as "a two lined hand stamp in Roman capitals. Both old and the new currencies
are spelt in full. Used in Dacca Saddar and Ramna in March and April 1963". The overprint,
stated to be in violet on Ordinary stamps is not illustrated, nor are measurements given, but the
two recorded values are 50 Paisa I 8 Annas and 87 Paisa I 14 Annas. Malik & Zaki repeat this
information, giving dimensions of 10.5 mm for length of Paisa and 3.5 mm for height ofletters.
Their illustration shows all letters in capitals. It is submitted that the two stamps shown below are
those recorded by Isani (particularly given the unusual very late usages) and that he mis-recorded
the type of case of characters. Subsequently four other pieces have been discovered with this
type, two with clear Dacca postmarks and dates in 1961.

Additionally, a number of unused stamps with this overprint are known. Some collectors have
descnbed these as from an unknown East Pakistan location, some have attributed them to Dacca,
and some have condemned them as bogus imitations of the well- known Gujranwala (West
Pakistan) bandstamps to which they bear an uncanny resemblance, albeit being of larger size.
Overprints on both Ordinary and Service issues have been seen in unused condition.
