Kamigata, thought to have been a Japanese dealer in the 1890sand 1900sforged Asian
stamps to sell to tourist. Some were deceptive. At first it was believed that he imported
the stamps for resale. In 1954, a limited publication was published showing 20 actual
examples, implying that these were his productions.
Forgeries historically attributed to Kamigata were produced by Maeda Kihei, and
published by the firm Kamigataya, the owner(s) of which is presently unknown.
