SUPERIORITY1830-1837 The Sheridan
DRAMATIC LINE
In 1832 Edward Knight Collins with other investors operated the New Orleans,
Louisiana & New York Packet Line. In 1837 he used his experience in the
coastal packet trade to make a significant design change in Dramatic Line
vessels. These vessels, the Shakespeare, Garrick, Sheridan and Siddons, had
longer bows and were "flat floored." This design a more " U" bottom tha
previous packets, thereby providing greater cargo space. They rode smoo er,
faster and were less likely to stick on sand bars.
