At the PSL: Society establishes principle of fortnightly meetings, which has been the norm
ever since. Membership in ten-year decline during which it will lose a quarter of members.
Honorary President H.R.H. Prince Alfred, Duke of Edinburgh, K.G. (Duke of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha).
PSL President was H.R.H. Duke of York. Membership stood at 289.

postcard rate. The card was sent by Lt. Hamilton Hodgson, lst. Battalion Lincolnshire
Regiment, Nile Expeditionary Force, to Ronald Ashby at Mocha Estate, M askeliya, Ceylon,
where it was redirected to Maturata. It was cancelled 'Haifa 16 1 V 98' and received transit
datestamps at Cairo, Suez, Colombo, M askeliya and a Maturata arrival mark. Lt. Hodgson
was present at the Battle of Omdurman on 2nd September 1898.
