1960 50 Anniversary
th
To commemorate the 50th Anniversary of the Pro Patria Foundation, a miniature sheet was issued on 1st June 1960,
displaying an identical design to that of the 50c Pro Patria stamp (with reversed colours). The miniature sheet was
recess printed by the Swiss PTT Printing Works in Berne, and had a face value of SFr.2.40 but sold for SFr.3.00, with
the additional surcharge collected for cultural purposes only.
The Pro Patria Foundation, formerly the Schweizer Bundesfeierkomitee,
was formed in 1909 with the dual purpose of organising the National
Day celebrations, and arranging annual collections in aid of charitable
causes, such as organisations dedicated to caring for the poor, the sick,
handicapped, and disabled. Occasionally, contributions are channelled
towards conservation or preservation of special Swiss customs and
landmarks. The Foundation continues to provide this service today.
