2.6 HISTORICAL DEVELOPMENT: FURTHER DEVELOPMENTS
INFLATION YEARS
Times of inflation always posed difficulties, since frequent changes in postage rates made it difficult to know the
correct rate a specific time. This effect is even furthered for reply cards, there a foreign postal clerk virtually had
no possibility to know the exact foreign rate a specific time. Also, UPU rules never stated any regulations for the
slack time after a rate change, when a reply part, origininally mailed before a rate increase was still travelling.
German reply card slightly overfranked at 245 Pfennig, instead of 240 (rate from 01.01.1922 – 30.06.1922). Returned
from Latvia. The tax marking later was obliterated.
German reply card slightly overfranked at 360 Pfenning, instead of 350 (rate from 01.07.1922 – 30.09.1922). Returned
from Amsterdam, The Netherlands, on 09.07.1922.
