An example of the Piquetberg dated town oval ds [following the
Liverpool America type) in red used to cancel the 4d stamp in place of
the triangular obliterator . The dated town oval ds was introduced from
1853 and the date stamps were made in England .
The internal postage was 4d for ~ ounce at the time this letter was posted. This rate lasted until the 1s t
October 1879 when the rate changed to Town 1d and Country 3d [112 ounce in each case].
