August 8, 1996. ITALSAT flying Unit F2, the second experimental satellite of the programme, is
launched from Kourou atop an Ariane 44L, and placed in geostationary orbit at 16.4° East, designed
for Italian coverage, carrying innovative Ka band communication payload at 20/30 GHz, and 20GHz
telemetry beacon. Commemorative cover cancelled in Kourou on the day of launch.
August 8, 1996. together with ITALSAT also TELECOM-2D is launched with the same rocket which
marks the 13th Ariane 4 flight, and the 61st flight of an Ariane missile. Commemorative launch cover
postmarked in Kourou on the day of launch.
