SAN MARCO Programme

April 20,1963. The San Marco prototype spacecraft was launched for its first suborbital test using the
sounding rocket Shotput-6. Despite the failure in obtaining experimental data with Boglio‟s Balance,
the flight was considered a success because valuable data were obtained on its associated systems.
Cancel delayed on Monday 22 April, since the Wallops Island post office was closed at the time of
launch (Friday evening).

August 2, 1963. The second flight unit was successfully launched from WI and obtained preliminary
data on the atmospheric density in the range between 100 and 130 km of altitude. Cancel delayed on
the following morning since the Wallops Island post office was closed at the time of launch.
