SAN MARCO Programme (4)
February 18, 1974. The San Marco 4 satellite was launched. In addition to the "Broglio's balance", it
also brought in space two experiments prepared by GSFC to study the composition of the upper
atmosphere. It was also endowed with a series of small solar panels in its central belt.
October 15, 1974. Launch of a Scout rocket carrying the scientific satellite UK-5 (also called Ariel 5),
a joint British and American space observatory dedicated to observing the sky in the X-ray band.
