March 9, 1996. Return of Shuttle STS-75 where the Physicist, Italian astronaut and Payload Specialist
Umberto Guidoni, has monitored the Tethered Satellite experiment he knows well, as he had earlier
participated in its design and implementation, as a Researcher in the National Research Council. Cover
commemorating the preparation of the deorbit phase, postmarked in Houston, where the MCC is
based.
April 13, 2001. Launch of mission Endeavour STS-100, carrying in space for the first time the Italian
MPLM RAFFAELLO. Umberto Guidoni flew for the second time as the first Italian astronaut certified
as “ISS Mission Specialist”. He also became the first European astronaut to visit the International
Space Station. Commemorative cover postmarked at the KSC on the day of launch of STS-100.
