February 22, 1996. Launch of the Mission STS-75. Maurizio Cheli, test pilot of the Italian Air Force,
became the first non-American Shuttle “flight engineer”, in charge of board systems and Shuttle
instrumentation. Commemorative cover postmarked with the pictorial Shuttle postmark at the Kennedy
Space Center on the day of launch of STS-75
March 9, 1996. Return of mission Shuttle STS-75 where the two Italian astronauts Maurizio Cheli and
Umberto Guidoni have tested again the Tethered Satellite TSS-1R, and demonstrated the possibility of
generating electrical power in space. Commemorative cover cancelled on the day of return at KSC
where the Columbia landed.
