SUPERIORITY 1830-1837                                                                           The Canada
        BLACK BALL LINE





                            By  1830 American  packets  making  regular voyages  between  New
                            York,  Liverpool  and London dominated North  Atlantic sailing lanes.
                            Black  Ball  packets departed on the  1st and  16th of the  month, Red
                            Star ships on the 25th, Blue Swallowtail line on the 8th to Liverpool.
                            Departing for London were Black X on the 16th and Red Swallowtail
                            on the 1st.  Thus six monthly sailings provided companies in America
                            and England communication links for their growing business interests.
