From 1897 a new type of maritime mail cachet depicting a small steamship was
applied to uncancelled mail arriving at the larger ports. The earliest version of this
postmark used at. Helsinki shows the boat without any in.sQripti-On:

1897 postcard to Germany, probably landed from one of the coastal steamers.

Later ve!sions of this postmark had the inscription 'Posti*Post under the ship.
This mark was used from 1009 to 1937.
