Although the port ofLappeenranta is situated inland at the southern end of the Saimaa
lake system and about 43 Km. from the Gulf of Finland it is linked to the sea by the
Saimaa Canal, 17 Km. of which run through Russia. This deep water canal enters
the Gulf of Finland near the Russian city of Viipuri .

A small boxed 'Navire' mark is applied to mail arriving at the port by sea.
