MS Gripsholm (1957)
Most of the mail from the maiden voyage on 14 May 1957 was produced for or by philatelists. It was
important, however, for the SAL to continue advertising its new liner to travel agents and a SAL postcard
was printed especially for travel agents.
This example has the maiden voyage date-stamp of
14 May 1957 and is sent to the Thomas Cook office in
Oslo. The message, written in Norwegian, translates as:
"We send you a greeting from Scandinavia's largest
passenger ship that now for the first time is ploughing
the North Atlantic on route from Gothenburg to Halifax
and New York "
