MS Gripsholm (1957)

By 1953, the SAL was operating the Stockholm and the Kungsholm and needed a further cruise liner.
This was to be called MS Gripsholm.

Built in Italy, the SAL produced a postcard celebrating its launch on 8 April 1956 that was posted in
Genoa to travel agents, in this case the Lutheran Travel service to promote the new liner.

"The launching of our new motorliner Gripsholm here today was a thrilling ceremony. The Gripsholm is
expected to be in service in the spring of 1957. You will be proud to recommend this beautiful ship to your
clients - Hilmer Lundbeck, Resident Director, Swedish American Line"
