MS Gripsholm (1957)
Private overprint on official SAL postcard certifying
attendance at t Masonic meeting on 8 January 1969 with the
generic CRUISE hand-stamp of the Gripsholm dated
18 January 1969. The postcard was sent to the
St James Lodge #23 in the USA and dropped off at Kingston
Jamaica where it received a date-stamp and
PAQUEBOT of Kingston on 21 January.
The deluxe motorliner GRIPSHOLM · length 631 feet· gross tons 23, 190
- transatlantic service between New York, Copenhagen, Denmark and
Gothenburg, Sweden. The Swedish American Line also operates
long and short cruises to all five Continents of the world.

In May 1975 the SAL was advertising cruises on the Gripsholm for Christmas 1975 and to Africa in
January 1976. However, the decision was made during 1975 to cease liner operation because of financial
concerns. The final voyage of the Gripsholm was in October 1975. This envelope was posted at
Balestrand, Norway on 6 October 1975 and bears a SAL cachet. A similar cachet was used on the final
voyages of the Kungsholm.
