                              COMMEMORATION

                              Member since 2011. Lives in England.
                              Dr Albert Schweitzer (1875 -1965) was already a famous musician, theologian and philosopher when
                              he trained  to be  a doctor.  He  built  a hospital  in  Lambarene,  Gabon  and  was  awarded  the  Nobel
                              Peace prize in 1952 for his humanitarian work there.  Illustrated are a strip of trial colour plate proofs
                              and  the  issued  French  birth  commemorative.  The  designer  and  engraver  was  Eugene  Lacaque.
                              3,000,000  stamps  were  printed.  Although  planned  for 13th January  1975  they  were  issued  llth
                             January. Similar designs by Lacaque were produced in the French colonies.
