One Centavo Mail
       The one centavo stamp is on rarely found used singly to prepay local drop letters. Its main application was in the
     uprating of postcards and as a make up value for 5 centavos and ten centavos letters, often in conjunction with the
     preceding and subsequent American Bank Note definitive stamps. The design was also transposed onto the new
     one centavo printed postcards (see postal stationery section):

    Two Centavos UPU Printed Matter Rate


       The UPU postcard rate was  3 centavos until  1907 but the UPU printed matter rate was 2 centavos only  until
     1907. Thus by marking a card "IMPRESO"(i.e. printed matter) a card could be sent for 2 centavos not 3 centavos:
