Earliest Recorded Use of a Position CG Adhesive

                       May 9, 1840

Plate 2 adhesive used from Cockermouth to Carlisle, approximately 26 miles away.

Only plates 1 and 2 were used to print the stamps available at the time of the
introduction of the Penny Black at the beginning of May 1840.

Although May 6, 1840 was the first day that the penny black was valid to prepay
postage rates, the earliest recorded date for a position CG adhesive is this Saturday,
                       May 9, 1840 wrapper.
