2.2 HISTORICAL DEVELOPMENT: FIRST «REPLY CARDS» AND «THE GERMAN AGREEMENT»
OCTOBER 1873: BILATERAL BETWEEN BELGIUM AND THE NETHERLAND
On October 14, 1873 Belgium and The Netherlands announce a mutual agreement to accept reply cards in
bilateral mail services between these countries. The Netherland issued a respective postcard for 5 + 5 cent for this
usage on 15.12.1873)
Reply postcard from The Netherlands issued especially for the use with Belgium according the 1873
agreement, returned 19.03.1874 from Bruges to Rotterdam. The card shows a Belgium transit marking
«Holland Nord » dated 19.03.1874 and an arrival mark from Rotterdam with the same date.
