The Speaker of The House of Commons
Although the letter is not with the envelope postmarked on 29 January 1975, it undoubtedly remains in.the
= archives of London solicitors, Amery Parkes & Co. The Speaker, Selwyn Lloyd, had occasion to consult
with the legal profession, and ensured it reached John Kenneth Holmes Havard and no other, with the
addition of the words 'In confidence'. As well as the red House of Commons Official Paid and dated
handstamp, the envelope carries the 'l' for first class post and the purple cachet of the Speaker himself.
