Turkey
Between Greece and Turkey there were always postal rowings on political reasons. Letters from Greece
had to be franked or taxed to the Greek Postoffice as Exchange Office in Constantinople- it is difficult
to find out who paid the tax there - mostly the companies had an agent to do so. Entering the Turkish mail the
amount for Turkey was collected with Postage Dues (Turkey started very earfy with Dues) from the receiver.

• Unpaid LS from Astros 3. 11. 1873 via Athens 7. 11. with french ship to the Greek Postoffice in
Constantinople, they tax the letter with 45 Lepta- the stamps are cancelled with the cancel 95
of Constantinople, an agent named in the letter paid this amount-
the Turkish Mail cancelled the letter with the oval cancel of
Bachtsche-Kapussi 19.11., the Due of1 Ghrusch orPiaster
is obliterated in Galata
