Mail from or to Egypt could only be franked to Alexandria. From there all letters - coming from where
so ever- were directed via the Greek Post office as Exchange Office.
Mail to Greece was charged to the receiver and taxed with Greek adhesives. This leads to ,Combination-
frankings of Group 1" as described in the introduction-page. The Greek frontier in these cases was in relation
to Egypt already the Greek Post Office in Alexandria.
Mail to Egypt was taxed with 4 for 40 Para = 1 Piaster for single weight to 10 g (in Egypt 3 Dirham or about 10 g)
or 80 Para = 2 Piaster for 10 to 20 g

lt is again to point out the Difference of the Gregorian and the Julian ea/ender of 12 days,
which were used in the Med;terranian and in Russia. w;th this difference ;t happened often that a letter
arrived before it was sent - by cancelled date!
