Indicium 1s 3d - Stamped To Order

Although most indicium values of the Tudor Rose design are known on many shapes and sizes of philatelic mail, the 1s 3d is recorded as having been commercially
used on registered mail. This example was prepared and used by Barclays Bank in London.

The die registration records show that all dies numbered 1 to 92 were made and registered. Of these, 32 numbers between 1 to 69 have been recorded on the issued
post office envelopes. These official envelopes were printed and embossed by McCorquodales at their Wolverton works.

Die 36 was not used on post office envelopes, as it was kept at Somerset House and was used to emboss private Stamped To Order stationery for private companies
            or individuals.

Rare commercial Stamped To Order envelope used by Barclays Bank, measuring 269 x 115 mm.
Only Die 36 has been recorded. Used 28 Jun 1960.
