        Black Ball Line


                                Double  Forwarded  Letter.   Rowe  defines  a  forwarding  agent
                                as  "A  person,  or  firm,  who  undertakes  to  see  that  goods  or
                                correspondence of another are transported without himself acting
                                as the  carrier."  They  played  an  important  roll  in  areas  where
                                postal systems were developing or difficulties were encountered
                                in  moving the mail.

                                                  a'ddressee forwarded to Downingtown PA on December 16.  A
                                                    ews Boat cover.

                                                                           White  of Downingtown,  PA.  The
                                                                           Philadelphia  postmark  shows  the
                                                                           letter  was  received  in  Philadelphia
                                                                           December 15, 1820.  Also there is the
                                                                           notation of the Liverpool forwarding
                                                                           agent Beaumont &  Pooley, not listed
                                                                           in Rowe.
