The first glassworks in La Rochere were established in 1475 and are still producing glass
today! Francois-Xavier Fouillot, our addressee, headed the glassworks from 1858, and
modernized production methods. The furnaces, fired by wood for centuries, were converted
to coal. Here, a Saar coal dealer offers various grades of coal at competitive prices, to be
shipped by water. This region of Europe was troubled for many years. Not until 1956 did
political boundaries stabilize. Confusing times for people! With multiple languages and
currencies you have to admire the pluck and adaptability of these business people!
