Local cover cancelled "Ma/eking AP 25 1900", franked with the large
format Baden-Powell stamp and addressed to the B.S.A. Fort. Three pence
postage rate for covers between the town and the outlying forts and outposts.
In 1899 the second Anglo-Boer war broke out. Colonel
Baden-Powell and his men held the town of Mafeking
in a siege against overwhelming numbers of the enemy.
