Baden-Powell's small force res isted an army at least three times more
numerous, thus enab ling th e main body of the British troops to regroup for
a counter-attack. Mafekin g was relieved after a siege of 2 17 days.
After the relief of Mafekin g, Robert S.S. Baden-Bowe ll was rai sed to th e rank
of Major-General , and found himse lf a hero in the eyes of hi s countrymen.
