Indicium 2s

The increase in the minimum registration fee from 1s 6d to 1s 9d
on 29 Apr 1963 was catered for in the short term by the printing
of an additional 3d value on 1s 9d envelopes.

The long term solution was of course to prepare a new 2s die,
paying the minimum inland postage of 3d and the minimum
         registration of 1s 9d.
These essays and proofs from the designer’s archive are dated
May and Jun 1963, i.e. shortly after the rate rise.

Die proof of an earlier value embossed onto
photographic paper with ‘2/-’ retouched by hand.
