July 2, 1971. Launch of Skylark 3 rocket carrying the ESRO payload S73 for Solar astronomy
investigation (Solar X-ray/Zodiacal mission)
July 26, 1971. Launch of the Swiss Cuckoo-Zenit vehicle built by Oerlikon-Bührle Machine Tools Co
and Contraves AG. The ESRO Z82 mission failed due to the premature fairing ejection caused by
faulty stages separation.
Altogether 86 known major missions were launched from the Salto di Quirra missile range between
1961 and 1972.
