November 30. 1968. Even the 8th test of Europa 1 carries the Italian Payload. While the first stage (the
British Blue Streak IRBM) and the second stage (the French Coralie) work this time correctly, the
third stage, the German Astris, dies out prematurely, causing the unsuccess of the launch and the loss
of the payload.
June 12, 1970. Ninth and last test of Europa-1 experimental rocket. During the F9 flight, the three
stages function correctly, but the launch results in a new failure, the fairing being not jettisoned. Once
again the Italian STV cannot be placed in orbit. After withdrawal of British support, the Europa-1
project – after eight years– is definitely cancelled.
