Advice of Receipt Stamp
"AR" letters were a carry over from the old Spanish colonial system of registration where signed envelopes were
taken back to the post office. Before 1894 no "AR" stamps existed and so letters were marked "AR" with a
coloured pencil, by handstamp or by the use of a printed label.

Rate: UPU fee 20 centavos (double basic rate) plus 10 centavos registration plus 5 centavos AR fee
The AR adhesives were not meant to be cancelled and many covers have had the AR stamps added subsequently
