This was recut from the above hand stamp then issued on the 22nd December 1863. It is recorded used between the
24th December 1863 and 29th September 1864. It has a scarcity rating of A common.

Above you can see an interesting cover with an example of this hand stamp dated the 18th February 1864 and
showing the code letter E a common code. It was posted from Shrewsbury to Baschurch it has several hand written
messages one saying Sound Heath and the other Hammer Hill both seem to have been tried. One may have been
successful as there is another written message in red stating it was opened by Mary Hope? Then in the same ink a
redirection address was written to a HJ .Barker in W em. You can see I have a copy of the reverse of the envelope as
unusually it has been sealed by several bits of selvage from a 1 d red plate Rl 6.
