SURCBARGES ON 25 CENTS INDIGO OF 1888


               1890: 'Iwo Cents' Surcharge:
               Priorto the entry ofNorth Bomeo into the U.P.U. it WBS'believed that the new internal letter rate
               would be 2 cents, in fact the rate remained at 3 cents.














                 Block of 6 stamps cancelled with 14 bar oval of Sandakan, the blue crayon mark indicates that
                tbey came from a registered envelope (12c. franking = 6c. foreign letter rate + 6c. registration).



























                     The black surcbarge on the two left band stamps of the block was possibly inked in by band.
               V ariety: An inverted overprint was first reported in 1892.















               Forgery: Very poorly executed in small vermillion capitals on a genuine stamp.
                                 The Kudat 'A' c.d.s. is dated 22 JA 1889, i.e. a year before issue.
