SURCBARGES ON THE 25 CENTS INDIGO OF 1883

         1892 '8 Cents' Surcharge
There was no postal need for this value the international letterftte having been reduced to 6 cents on the lst
July 1891. lt is relatively scarce, 'The Philatelie Record' of December 1892 states that only 300 copies of the
         provisional were produced.

         Probable Forgery
As the provisional is highly catalogued and the basic stamp is rather common forgeries oftb.e surcharge are very likely
to occur. The letters ofthis copy and particularly tb.e '8' are a little tb.icker and not so well formed and tb.e bottom ofthe
'ts' of 'Cents' smudged. Tue colour is rather dull compared to tb.e genuine

Jackson Selsor reported {Journal, Volume 3S p7) the existence of a forgery altb.ough the distinguishing features do not
appear to be the same as this one.
