1886: The 'and Revenue' overprints.
In order to satisfy the demand for low value revenue stamps the current Yz and 10 cents stamps
were overprinted, it is not known why the over values-were not overprinted. Both values were
valid for postage although used copies of the Yz cent are scarce. (: \ ~ ~ "' l

Very little is known about this variety that is listed by Scott but not by Stanley Gibbons.
lt is probable that this copy is genuine as a forger is unlikely to use a pen-cancelled stamp.

three copies ofthe 10 c '&Revenue' stamp and a copy ofthe 'Tbree Cents / Revenue' posta.l fiscal.
The piece bears fifteen stamps totalling

96 cents, the rate for a 2 / 3 oz letter to
the U.K. by 'closed mail'. As North
Bomeo was not a member of tbe U.P.U.
at this time foreign mail norm.ally prepaid
with Labuan or Straits Settlements stamps.
