Hugh Fortescue, 2nd Earl Fortescue (1783-1861) was known as Viscount Ebrington from 1789
until his father's death in 1841, when he inherited the title of Earl Fortescue.
By 1837 he was Member of Parliament for Devon North, a new constituency created in the reforms
of 1832. He was Lord Lieutenant oflreland from 1839 to 1841, and Lord Lieutenant of Devon-from
1839 until his death in 1861.
