A pictorial Navire maritime postmark was brought into use in 1965 for mail landed at
Turku. The postmark depicted one of the new large ferries operating on the routes
between Finland and Sweden. This postmark was in use for only two years.

1966 postcard posted onboard a ferry sailing from Sweden to Turku.

In the late 1950s the ferry traffic between Sweden and Finland increased significantly.
Several companies competed for passengers using larger and larger car carrying
ferries. In addition the ferry companies also started to operate cruise liners around the
Baltic. New and larger terminal facilities were constructed in both Turku and Helsinki
                  to meet this additional demand.
