In 1970 new ferry routes were
opened between Jakobstad
(Pietarsaari) in Finland and
Sundsvall, Skelleftea and
Omskoldsvik in Sweden, in
competition with the Helsinki
and Turku routes to Stockholm.
These new routes proved to be
unprofitable and were closed
in the mid-1990s.
