SS Stockholm (1915)
11December1915 saw the maiden crossing of the SS Stockholm from
Goteborg to New York. The liner was forced to make a stop at Kirkwall by the
British Navy to be searched for contraband. Rumours had been publicized that
the Stockholm carried German bullion to be disposed of in America.
This Christmas postcard from Boras dated 9 December 1915 has the cachet
from the maiden voyage with the expectation that it would arrive with the
addressee in Winnipeg Canada before Christmas Day. In the event the liner
docked in New York on 27 December 1915.

For the return voyage in January 1916 to Sweden a similar cachet was in use. This letter dated 29
December 1915 from Philadelphia reached its destination in Goteborg on 25 January 1916.
